Why inclusion is important to us…
K14: Principles of equality, diversity and inclusion and the impact on the customer experience and business. (ST1)
Our specific commitments to creating an inclusive culture are:
Delivering training to make sure that all colleagues understand this policy and behave in an appropriate way
Monitoring our gender and ethnicity pay gap and taking action if we identify any inequality
Making it possible for colleagues to achieve a balance between work and home commitments through flexible working (see our Flexible Working and Parents and Carers policies or Working More Flexibly Asia policy for more information)
Developing new products and services that meet the diverse needs of all of our customers
Creating a workplace and a shopping environment where people with different needs feel respected and valued, whether they’re families with children, people with disabilities or carers and regardless of their age, first language, religious beliefs, gender identity, or sexual orientation
Tracking our performance in recruiting and retaining a diverse mix of colleagues and taking positive action to improve it where needed

We value the different perspectives and experiences of all our colleagues. We’re proud of our diverse workforce because every colleague’s unique viewpoint helps us to innovate and to understand and embrace different customers’ needs and wants. That’s why attracting and retaining the best colleagues from all parts of the community matters to us. It’s essential to our success as a leading retailer.
The law protects individuals from discrimination and harassment in the workplace and this policy allows us to meet our legal obligations. However, as part of our commitment to making Sainsbury’s a great place to work and creating an inclusive environment for all, we work hard to go beyond our responsibilities in law.
